Tips & Techniques

Tip #1 How to fix a cracked crust

To fix a cracked crust, simply begin by pressing and turning the supplied plastic dome inside of the crust to secure loose or broken crumbs.

Tip #2 How to remove the crust and place it in your own serving dish

Preheat the oven to 375° F. Brush the bottom and sides of the crust evenly with one beaten egg white, egg yolk or whole egg. Bake on a baking sheet until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Completely cool crust.

Replace the dome. Place the crust, dome side down, in the palm of one hand. Carefully remove the tin.

With your other hand, place a 9" pie plate on the crust. Turn the plastic dome and pie plate over into the same hand. Fill as desired.

Tip #3 How to give baked pies a golden glow

To give your baked pies a golden glow, brush a beaten egg or egg yolk on the crust. Bake at 375° F for five minutes before adding ingredients. You can also use a beaten egg white, but the resulting color may be less golden.

Tip #4 How do I store my pie crust?

Pie crusts should remain covered and are best stored at room temperature.

Tip #5 How long can I store my prepared pie?

It is best to prepare the pie as close to serving time as possible. If you need to prepare the pie ahead of time, we recommend storing refrigerated pies covered and for no longer than two to three days. Frozen pies are to be stored covered and for no more than one week.

Tip #6 When serving ice cream pies

When serving ice cream pies, remove pie from the freezer 10–15 minutes before serving. Dip a knife in warm water to make slicing easier.

Tip #7 Toasting nuts

Spread out nuts evenly on a baking sheet. Place into a 375° F oven for 3–5 minutes or until pecans are well toasted.

Tip #8 Chocolate drizzle

Place some chocolate in a plastic sandwich bag and melt in microware, checking at 20-second intervals. When ready, cut off a small tip of one corner, and squeeze.

Tip #9 For smoother strawberry topping

For smoother strawberry topping, blend preserves approximately 20 seconds.
